Strathcarron Hospice
Denny, Falkirk
With a 40-year history of providing palliative and end of life care to people across the Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Strathcarron Hospice is a much loved local charity. C2 was therefore delighted to work pro bono to solve a small but significant problem for the hospice – a boardroom with terrible acoustics.
Part of a new extension building, the boardroom included sophisticated video conferencing equipment. But the lofty space’s high reverberation times meant that people at the other end of a call couldn’t hear the conversation.
Working with acoustic engineers Sandy Brown Ltd, C2 devised a simple solution based on detailed reverberation measurements: cladding the walls with acoustic panels and installing acoustic rafts overhead.
As well as resolving the reverberation issue, these light touch interventions add warmth and colour to the space while disguising two prominent fan coil units suspended from the ceiling.
